solution
Each stakeholder that contributes to the problem can recognize their responsibility for the actions that they have taken, whether they be intentional or not, that has depleted the water resources in India.
- The people of India are facing an extreme water crises, and could benefit themselves by making efforts to use less water wherever possible.
- The farmers and other agriculturalists need to taper their usage drastically, perhaps by upgrading their technology, and either putting their pumps on timers or otherwise ensuring that the systems are not constantly drawing water.
- The Governments need to concentrate authority over riparian rights in a governmental entity that is check-able by the Supreme Court of India. Legislation that details dynamic property rights and water extraction allowances is absolutely imperative. Rather than providing tax incentives to companies to "invest" in their states, the respective governments should invest in better water collection and sanitation tools, as well as water pipelines that would allow water to be evenly distributed to the citizens. Putting money into an educational program for agriculturalists of all scales to provide modern irrigation technique ideas would allow the citizens to understand how and why the water crises is happening and what they can do to help it as individuals.
- NGO's need continue to pressure the governments to implicate the legislature, measures and procedures, as well as help in the education process.
- Coca-Cola should drastically modify their water usage behaviors and practices. It is essential that they lower or eliminate the amount of pesticides and other toxic ingredients that is used both in the production of the plants in the product, but the product itself. They must limit the amount of water they draw, and abide by local, state, and federal law even though the governments are not strictly enforcing them. Coca-Cola is a highly profitable company and could pay for corporate social responsibility actions such as water recharging systems that are effective and following through on the other promises that they made. The company claimed that they would build schools for children and adults, as well as dams for hydroelectricity and control of water flow. Employ citizens to maintain and measure water recharging systems, would solve some of the self proclaimed problems.
